Barbara Magruder

Barbara Lee Magruder was born on May 15, 1947, to the late Albert Leroy Magruder and Sarah Bernice Costley Magruder in Westminster, MD. She transitioned peacefully at her daughter’s home on Thursday, December 1, 2022, after a short but aggressive battle with cancer. Barbara, the youngest girl of twelve, grew up in Westminster, MD, where she formed an everlasting bond with friends throughout her lifetime. After attending Robert Moton Elementary-High School, Barbara took several night courses in Art at Morgan State College in Baltimore, MD.
Barbara began a career in childcare and education in 1971 while living in Carroll County. Guder moved to Silver Spring, MD, and continued working in the education field for Fairfax County Public Schools as a Teachers Aide at Stenwood Elementary until retiring from a forty-two-year career in education in July 2013. Guder continued to live life to the fullest, attending outdoor concerts, traveling, and dining with her girlfriends. Guder was also a very creative, talented, and gifted artist. Her artwork could have been displayed in museums for the world to see, but her passion was to create beautiful works of art exhibited in her home, the school hallway, on stage for a play, and murals on bedroom walls. Guder enjoyed her time doing what she wanted, but her most significant moments were spent hanging out with family.
