MARIE ELIZABETH FLOYD

Marie Elizabeth (Donahoe) Floyd was born 2/16/1919 in NYC. She was one of 6 siblings (Frank, Joseph, twin sisters Anne & Rita, and Ruth). Educated in NYC she moved to the greater Washington DC area with her husband Charles Donald Floyd (married 1951) and children Patricia and Marianne. After returning in 1956 from Genoa, Italy where “Don” was assigned with the Department of State Immigration Refugee Resettlement Program, they settled in Northern Virginia (Falls Church) where additional children Thomas and Judy were born. Marie had a career working at Catholic University of America School of Theology and the Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Marie and family belonged to the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Community where most of her children attended primary school. Marie was predeceased by her husband Don in July 1983 as well as all of her siblings. Marie later was a member of St. James Parish and St. Leo The Great Parish. Marie died March 6, 2019 in her own bed with services of Capital Caring Hospice the previous 6 months of her life. She resided with daughter Marianne the final 5 years of her life. Marie’s funeral and interment took place Friday March 15, 2019.
Marie and husband Don are interred at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, Virginia. She is survived by children Patricia, Marianne, Thomas (wife: Christina), Judy and two grandchildren Patrick Thomas and Matthew Joseph Floyd. This donation in memory of Marie and in lieu of flowers were supported by the financial support of Thomas’ colleagues from Carroll Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on the grounds of Providence Hospital in NE, Washington, DC.
